복음으로 사람을 변화시키고  칭찬으로 사람을 세우는 선교사백종찬

대한민국에는 26년 동안 한길을 걸어온 특별한 선교사가 있다.

그는 대형교회를 세운 목회자도 아니고

유명한 정치인도 아니다. 

그러나 오랜 세월 동안 사람을 세우는 일을 자신의 사명으로 삼고 묵묵히 걸어온 사람이다.

바로 백종찬(白鍾讚) 선교사이다.

현재 그는 CCBS 칭찬합시다 뉴스 한국방송 대표, 

칭찬위원연합회 대표회장, CCBS 복음선교단 선교사로 활동하며 복음과 칭찬을 통해 사람을 세우는 사역을 이어가고 있다.

그의 삶을 관통하는 질문은 단 하나였다.

“어떻게 하면 사람을 살릴 수 있을까?”

이 질문은 단순한 고민이 아니라 그의 인생 전체를 움직인 사명의 씨앗이었다.

1967년 12월 27일, 경기도 수원에서 신실한 기독교 

3대 가정의 자녀로 태어난 백종찬 선교사는 유년기와

 청년기를 지나며 사람과 세상을 배우는 시간을 가졌다.

1988년부터 2000년까지 

그는 복음과 사람에 대한 깊은 고민 속에서 살아갔다.

세상은 비난과 갈등, 경쟁과 정죄로 가득했다.

사람들은 상처받고 있었고

공동체는 점점 무너지고 있었다.

그때 그의 마음속에 하나의 깨달음이 자리 잡기 시작했다.

“사람은 사랑받을 때 회복되고, 칭찬받을 때 용기를 얻으며 예수님을 만날 때 새로운 삶을 시작한다.”

2000년 그는 대한민국 사회에 칭찬문화를 심기 위한 칭찬국민운동을 시작했다.

이 운동은 단순한 캠페인이 아니었다.

사람을 살리고 공동체를 회복시키기 위한 칭찬국민운동이었다.

이후 그는 칭찬합시다뉴스를 창간하고 전국 곳곳에 숨어 있는 선행자와 봉사자들을 발굴하기 시작했다.

또한 세계 최초로 ‘칭찬기자’ 제도를 창안하여 사회의 밝은 이야기를 전하는 새로운 언론문화를 만들었다.

칭찬기자들은 비난과 갈등의 뉴스를 넘어 사람을 세우는 뉴스를 기록하기 시작했고

수많은 선행과 봉사의 주인공들이 세상에 알려지게 되었다.

2001년에는 대한예수교장로회(개혁) 총회신학·신대원을 졸업하고 강남노회에서 목사 안수를 받았다.

그는 복음과 칭찬운동을 결합하는 새로운 사역의 길을 걸어가기 시작했다.

2018년에는 서울 서초구에서 ‘칭찬합시다 사랑나눔 

운동’을 시작하였다.

그는 늘 질문했다.

“몇 시간의 행사를 위해 수천만 원을 쓰는 것이

 과연 사람을 위한 일인가?”

그는 그 비용의 일부라도 어려운 이웃들에게 사용된다면 더 큰 가치가 있다고 믿었다.

그 결과 칭찬합시다 사랑나눔이 결합된 새로운 사회운동이 시작되었다.

독거노인, 장애인, 다문화가정, 소외계층을 위한 사랑나눔 활동은 전국으로 확산되었고

칭찬합시다축제 사랑나눔은 사람을 세우는 대표적인 실천운동으로 자리 잡게 되었다.

2019년에는 대한민국칭찬주인공 제도를 시작하였다.

첫 번째 수상자는 베트남 축구의 기적을 만든 박항서 감독이었다.

이후 수백 명의 선행자와 봉사자, 사회공헌자들이 대한민국칭찬주인공으로 선정되며 

칭찬문화 확산에 기여하였다.

그러나 백종찬 선교사의 사역은 사회운동에서 멈추지 않았다.

26년 동안 현장을 걸으며 그는 더 깊은 진리를 발견하였다.

“칭찬은 사람을 세울 수 있지만 복음만이 사람을 변화시킨다.”

이 깨달음은 곧 ‘칭찬실천목회신학’의 출발점이 되었다.

그는 복음을 단순한 종교 지식이 아니라 예수 그리스도와의 만남으로 정의한다.

그가 정리한 복음의 흐름은 매우 단순하면서도 명확하다.

복음은 만남을 만들고,
만남은 변화를 만들며,
변화는 성장을 만들고,
성장은 성숙을 만들며,
성숙은 회복을 만든다.

그리고 회복된 사람은 또 다른 사람을 세운다.

이러한 신학적 흐름은 그의 대표 저서인 

『하나님의 화려한 외출(GOD IN MOTION)』로 

이어졌다.

그는 하나님을 멀리 계신 존재로 설명하지 않는다.

하나님은 지금도 사람을 찾아오시는 분이다.

눈물의 현장으로 들어오시고,
상처 입은 사람 곁에 앉으시며,
절망 속에 있는 사람을 일으키시는 하나님.

그는 이것을 ‘하나님의 화려한 외출’이라고 표현한다.

또한 그는 예수성화그리기 운동을 시작하였다.

예수님의 얼굴을 따라 그리며 묵상하고 기도하는 이 운동은 단순한 미술 활동이 아니다.

예수님을 바라보고 마음에 새기는 영적 회복 운동이다.

생각의 붓으로 시작하지만 결국 기도가 되고, 묵상이 되고, 회복이 된다.

그는 이를 영혼육 회복 운동으로 설명한다.

영은 말씀과 성령을 통해 하나님과 연결되고,

혼은 예수성화와 묵상을 통해 생각과 감정과 의지가 회복되며,

육은 칭찬과 사랑나눔, 봉사와 섬김을 통해 복음을 실천한다.

현재 그는 『성경말씀이 확 열리는 복음교재』를 집필하며 

20여 년 동안 연구한 성경의 흐름을 체계적으로 정리하고 있다.

창세기부터 요한계시록까지 이어지는 하나님의 구원 역사를 누구나 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 돕기 위한 복음교재이다.

2026년, 백종찬 선교사는 새로운 출발선에 서 있다.

그는 앞으로 칭찬교회를 설립하고, CCBS 복음교육원을 세우며, 예수성화연구원과 칭찬사관학교를 통해 다음 세대 지도자를 양성하는 비전을 품고 있다.

또한 CCBS 한국방송, 칭찬위원연합회, 칭찬교회, 예수성화운동, 사랑나눔운동, 복음교재를 하나로 연결하는 세계 복음문화운동 플랫폼 구축을 꿈꾸고 있다.

백종찬 선교사의 삶은 단순한 개인의 성공 이야기가 아니다.

그것은 사람을 세우고 공동체를 회복시키기 위한 26년의 실천 기록이며, 복음을 삶의 현장으로 가져오는 ‘복음의 화려한 외출’이다.

그의 인생을 가장 잘 설명하는 한 문장이 있다.

“나는 사람을 세우기 위해 부름받았다.”

그리고 그의 사역 전체를 관통하는 핵심 메시지는 이것이다.

“칭찬은 사람을 세우고, 복음은 사람을 변화시키며, 변화된 사람은 또 다른 사람을 세운다.”

오늘도 그는 GOD IN MOTION, 하나님의 화려한 외출이라는 비전 아래 사람을 세우고 공동체를 회복시키는 길을 걸어가고 있다.

그 길의 끝에는 하나님 나라를 향한 꿈이 있다.

사람이 변화되고,
가정이 회복되고,
교회가 살아나며,

대한민국과 세계가 복음 안에서 하나 되는 꿈.

GOD IN MOTION: God's Glorious Outreach

Missionary Baek Jong Chan – Transforming Lives Through the Gospel and Building People Through Encouragement

There is a unique missionary in South Korea who has faithfully walked a single path for the past 26 years.

He is neither the founder of a mega-church nor a famous politician. Yet he has devoted his life to one mission: building people and restoring communities.

He is Missionary Baek Jong Chan (白鍾讚), currently serving as the President of CCBS Korea Broadcasting, Chairman of the Praise Committee Federation, and a missionary of the CCBS Gospel Mission.

Throughout his life, one question has guided his journey:

"How can we save and restore people?"

This was not merely a personal curiosity; it became the seed of a lifelong calling.

Born on December 27, 1967, in Suwon, South Korea, into a faithful third-generation Christian family, Baek Jong Chan spent his early years learning about people, society, and life itself.

From 1988 to 2000, he wrestled deeply with questions concerning the Gospel and humanity.

The world around him was filled with criticism, conflict, competition, and condemnation. People were wounded, and communities were gradually breaking apart.

During this season, he discovered a profound truth:

"People are restored through love, encouraged through praise, and transformed when they meet Jesus Christ."

In the year 2000, he launched the National Praise Movement in Korea.

It was not simply another campaign. It was a movement designed to restore people and rebuild communities through the power of encouragement.

Soon afterward, he founded Let's Praise News, a media platform dedicated to discovering and sharing stories of kindness, volunteerism, and service throughout the nation.

He also pioneered the world's first concept of a "Praise Reporter," creating a new culture of journalism that focused on uplifting stories rather than division and negativity.

Through this movement, countless unsung heroes, volunteers, and community servants were brought into the public spotlight.

In 2001, Baek graduated from the General Assembly Theological Seminary of the Presbyterian Church in Korea (Reformed) and was ordained as a pastor through the Gangnam Presbytery.

This marked the beginning of a new ministry that combined the Gospel with the practice of encouragement.

In 2018, he launched the "Praise, Love, and Sharing Movement" in Seoul.

He often asked a challenging question:

"Is spending enormous amounts of money on a few hours of celebration truly serving people?"

He believed that even a small portion of those resources could provide meals for lonely seniors, support people with disabilities, assist multicultural families, and help struggling students.

From that conviction emerged a movement that combined praise with practical acts of compassion.

What began as a local initiative soon expanded nationwide, becoming a recognized model of community service and social restoration.

In 2019, he established the "Korea Praise Hero Award."

The first recipient was Coach Park Hang-seo, renowned for leading Vietnamese football to historic success.

Since then, hundreds of individuals who demonstrated exceptional service, volunteerism, and social contribution have been recognized and honored.

Yet Baek Jong Chan's work did not stop with social movements.

After twenty-six years of ministry experience, he arrived at a deeper spiritual conclusion:

"Praise can build people, but only the Gospel can transform them."

This realization became the foundation of what he calls Practical Praise Pastoral Theology.

For Baek, the Gospel is not merely religious knowledge.

The Gospel is an encounter with Jesus Christ.

He summarizes its transforming process in a simple yet profound sequence:

The Gospel creates an encounter.
An encounter creates change.
Change produces growth.
Growth leads to maturity.
Maturity brings restoration.
And restored people build and restore others.

This theological vision eventually became the basis for his book:

"GOD IN MOTION: God's Glorious Outreach."

In this work, Baek portrays God not as a distant figure but as a God who continually comes near to people.

A God who enters places of tears.

A God who sits beside the wounded.

A God who lifts up those who have fallen into despair.

This, he says, is God's glorious outreach to humanity.

Another significant expression of this vision is the Jesus Portrait Drawing Movement.

Participants are invited to draw the face of Jesus while praying, reflecting, and meditating on His life.

It is far more than an art program.

It is a spiritual restoration movement.

What begins with a pencil often becomes prayer.

What begins with drawing becomes meditation.

What begins as creativity becomes healing.

Baek describes this as a holistic restoration of spirit, soul, and body.

The spirit is renewed through God's Word and the Holy Spirit.

The soul is healed through meditation, reflection, and prayer.

The body is expressed through service, praise, compassion, and practical acts of love.

Today, Baek Jong Chan is also completing a comprehensive Gospel curriculum titled "The Gospel Study Guide That Opens the Bible."

The project represents more than twenty years of biblical research and aims to help readers understand God's redemptive story from Genesis to Revelation in a clear and accessible way.

As he approaches a new season of life, Baek stands at another beginning.

His vision includes establishing the Praise Church, launching the CCBS Gospel Education Institute, developing the Jesus Portrait Research Institute, and founding the Praise Leadership Academy to train future generations of Christian leaders.

He also dreams of creating a global Gospel culture platform that unites CCBS Korea Broadcasting, the Praise Committee Federation, Praise Church, the Jesus Portrait Movement, community outreach programs, and Gospel education resources.

The life of Baek Jong Chan is not merely a story of personal achievement.

It is a testimony of twenty-six years dedicated to building people, restoring communities, and bringing the Gospel into everyday life.

One sentence best summarizes his life's mission:

"I was called to build people."

And one message defines his ministry:

"Praise builds people. The Gospel transforms people. Transformed people build others."

Today, under the vision of GOD IN MOTION, he continues to walk the path of restoring lives, strengthening communities, and proclaiming the love of Jesus Christ.

At the end of that journey lies a dream:

People transformed.

Families restored.

Churches revived.

Communities renewed.

Nations united in the Gospel.

This is the road Missionary Baek Jong Chan continues to walk.

And it is the continuing story of God's Glorious Outreach.
